Does ranked hurt casual play in multiplayer games?

Originally in response to a reddit post on r/TheFinals, a user reposted an image of another player discussing whether competitive gameplay (or culture) has hurt multiplayer games. I want to go in depth and analyze this claim in detail, and in the perspective of The Finals.

 Today I received an email regarding a change to the Play store, about how app icons are increasing in corner radius from 20% to 30%. How much more round do you need your UI to be, Google?
